F-4 Phantom II
by Daren Savage

Wing

The foam wing cores were cut and were sheeted in the usual manner using 1/32" balsa. Follow the wing plan for cutting the stub spar slots in the foam before sheeting.

The leading edges give the unique Phantom profile. I opted for this method as the wing cores would be simpler to cut and sheet. All balsa is contest grade.

The trailing edge has been added and the wings are now ready to cut into two pieces.

The tips have been cut and leading edges rounded. Also seen is the wing tip jig. Make two.

The wing tips have now been joined to the main wing panels and fibreglass reinforced.

Seen here is the wing panels being test fit into the F5 and F6 bulkheads. Do not glue at this time.

The ailerons have now bee added. Here again, this is done in a conventional manner.

The ailerons as seen from the rear. Make sure to keep the inboard aileron ends short of the wing by about 1/32".

The fibreglass has been sanded and a light second layer of resin has been applied.

Here'a a detail shot of the right wing panel. The wing tips still need to be added at this point.
